Sevilla

Sevilla was basically a drunk tank for us. We used the weekend to relax and sober up after our crazy times in Lagos. The city is nice but very spread out. The narrow streets are like a maze spiraling out from the city´s center. Even with a map it is east to get lost.

We toured the royal palace and gardens and played tag in a hedge maze...fun stuff. We also checked out the city´s cathedral which is the 3rd largest in the world. Friday night we enjoyed a dinner of paella and sangria along the river. It is nice to be back in Spain. I´ve missed it. My Spanish is rather good considering it´s been years since I´ve been here.

Heidi and I hooked up with a couple of Canadian girls in Lagos that came with us to Sevilla and will be traveling with us for the next week. We arrived in Torremolinos today, a small beach town on the east coast of Spain. No surf here but I hear it´s better a little up the coast. I´ve only been once so far but am looking forward to getting back on a board.

The Black Hole

Lagos is what is known as a black hole for backpackers. A town so incredible that it sucks you in and many never leave. We went for three days and stayed for a week. Others end up staying the entire summer.

Lagos is a playground for the young. People from all over the world flock here every summer for the spectacular beaches and night life. We spent our days swimming through caves and grottos, lounging on hidden beaches, cliff diving, and surfing while our nights were consumed with none other than cheap beer, bars, and bonfires on the beach.

Nothing is harder than leaving paradise, which is finally what we did when we headed for Sevilla yesterday. We are here for a couple of days then plan on heading up the coast of Spain. We still have a lot of our trip left to go, but for a beach lover such as myself, we just left the best behind.

Party Girls

So Heids and I went out last night. Big. Seeing that the bars here are open until pretty much whenever, we finally staggered out around 6am. Haven't seen the sun rise in a while. Funny how that works...the only sun rises I see now a days are when I'm up all night. Oops.

Shots here are dirt cheap...1.25 £ to be exact. For those of you symbolicly challenged £ = Euro. So guess what we were drinking last night??? Shots. And a lot of them. Apparently B52's here are topped with Abscent, lit on fire, and sucked down with a straw. Now that I think about it, pretty much all the shots last night were lit on fire. Sweet.

Abscent is a liquor with an extremely high alcohol content. It is illegal in both the United States and in Australia. Hmmmm, probably should stay away from that. We were hanging out with these cool Aussies from Brisbane and boy could they drink.

Anyways, we had a blast last night and are certainly feeling the repercussions today. I was barely able to drag Heidi's ass out of bed this morning to go to the beach. Best cure for a hangover is quick dip in the frigid waters of the Atlantic. A couple waves in the face will knock some sense into ya!

Lisboa

Well, I made it!!! Live and well after 24 for hours, 3 connecting flights, and joyous Canadian experience. Man how I love those Canadians! Anyways, I'm hanging out at an internet bar by our hostel. I can't figure out my phone card to make any calls...awesome...so here I am. At least our hostel is cool. I so enjoy sharing a double bed with Heidi for the price of a double room. We like to cuddle :)

Yeah, yeah, it's really not that bad. Tomorrow we are going to check out some castles and palaces up north then it's off to the beach for a little surf and sun Thursday. I'm just grumpy from being up for almost 36 hours.

The Heat is On

Man it's hot out there. Not even 5 minutes and I'm covered with sweat. Step outside the door and you are engulfed in the hot, sticky air of what I am convinced is a sub-tropic climate transplanted here to middle America. It's torture just going from the house to the car. Humidity is the spawn of the devil and he sure as hell is boiling our asses here in Cincinnati. Love the lush, green look, but I'll be enjoying it through the quarter inch of glass that separates me from the steamy, swamp-like surroundings. Air conditioning is the savior of my sanity.

Oddly enough, I love this picture. Sure, it could easily be a snap shot of a male's lesbian fantasy, but look a little closer. No, not at Large grabbing my face and trying to make out, nor at my Gene Simmons-esque tongue. Look at Shellie. She appears to be so into the shot that one can't help but to smile. Shellie personifies this photo and paints a clear picture of how truly drunk we all must have been.
